Musket is a 14.3-15HH 9yo mare who is extremely safe, sane and simple to ride (*I stuck her at 14.3, the vet stuck her at 15H). She has completed 2x LDs, 3x 50s (1st place / Best Condition / High Vet Score) and 2x 75s (1st place, 2nd place). She spent the latter part of 2022 campaigning with a Junior Rider. Her AERC# is H59775 (under previous barn name Mow Mow). She is an all-business no drama partner - she is very calm at the start (even in a pack of 99 starters), has NO buck-rear-bolt, takes care of herself at rides (drinking 20-30 gulps after mile 15), eats on the trail and has great recoveries. She is not insanely forward and not lazy - she moves perfectly down the trail on a loose rein without being encouraged forward or reminded to slow down. She prefers a 10mph trot but is capable of a 13mph trot when asked. She is absolutely fantastic on technical terrain (even at a canter), climbs steep hills without effort and has an incredible and athletic downhill trot. She has a relaxed go-all-day canter. She has smooth gates (they get smoother the faster you go), travels straight with no interference and her feet are so good she has done 50s completely barefoot. Her spooks are typically small and insignificant “shy” to the side micro-spooks without changing her stride. IF she balks at something she will stop. Just do nothing, give her a minute, and she'll go ahead within 30 seconds or so when she's ready. She does fine with hikers, bikers, cars, baby carriages and bridges. She has a tendency to rush through water (less than 3 feet wide) and appreciates a slight half-halt to help her get her toes in, then will cross politely. She can win a ride but can also chill and mid-pack. She is a rare find in that she is SUPER fun to condition and SUPER well behaved at a ride. Often horses who are calm at rides are lazy to condition and the horses who are forward to condition lose their minds at a starting line. She is the same horse in both situations. She’s also unique in that she can ride with any horse – she will happily join your slow friends at a 6mph trot but just as easily lead your faster riding buddies at 12mph. Riding alone you can pick your pace – fast or slow -- put her on cruise control and she’ll hold the pace without reminders. She’s a great babysitter for young horses as she is not affected by the rearing/bucking/spinning horses near her. She is a safe and solid trail partner and has extensive experience traveling and camping.
